Food Art: Serving & Presentation Styles

In our world, not only is the event decor, clothing, and style of importance but so are the culinary choices. Food becomes art to my lens.  The presentation, style, and colors of whatever decadent culinary feast served offers up a multitude of interesting moments to capture for a couple

Presentation is key.  Just like selecting the perfect gown or color combination, choosing the right presentation for serving your guests can make any food seem that much more delightful.  Don’t you love the individual tasting spoons?  Served on a pewter tray, this feels so elegant, and you can’t wait to try a bite.

Pigs in a blanket never looked so good or chic!  The caterer clearly understood how the art of food and presentation works with the layering of mustard and ketchup.  Such an elegant way to present a classic finger food!  The interwoven colors of the mustard and ketchup created an artistic moment to my eye…almost like ribbons flying in the wind.

Once more, it is evident how color plays a direct correlation to our senses.  The touch of green or red makes the food look vibrant and appealing to eat.  As well, it adds interest in capturing these delights with my camera.

Just looking at these beautiful culinary treats makes my stomach growl.  I love seeing what each couple designs for their guests and how caterers present in such beautiful ways.  Chow time, anyone?

Wedding Sweets – Candy & Dessert Bars

Every event I capture always has the unveiling of the dessert.  Who doesn’t like dessert?  I’m having visions of sugar plums dancing in my head just thinking about the beauty I get to see in wedding sweets and treats!

Cream puffs, fruits, mints, candies….the world is your oyster when it comes to selecting out the the sweet portion of your wedding.  I don’t think I’ve ever heard a guest complain about the dessert options at a wedding and mostly just gawk in amazement.

This post is making me want to play Candyland.  All of the beautiful options down to necklaces! The fruitful colors make for interesting composition for the camera and gives me room to be creative in how I capture the treats.

I love seeing how each item is displayed.  It creates a personalized setting and style to the dessert being displayed.  Almost as if the sweets are saying “here I am and let me have my moment to shine”.  Each dessert bar is different, unique, and personalized which makes for a fascinating sweet subject to capture!

Boutonnieres: the unsung floral hero

Boutonnieres are often the overlooked floral of the wedding day, but I absolutely love them. In the same way that a great appetizer is a delightful balance of flavors and textures in one delectable bite, a well-executed boutonniere is a gorgeous, perfect little package of color, shape, and scent.  It’s a little floral teaser that perfectly compliments the rest of the decor.

These two variations on a theme were for the father of the bride and the ringbearer, respectively, and they coordinate beautifully.

A classy touch, matching the color of the lily to the the groom’s tie.

These boutonnieres featuring coral were perfect for a Mexican beach wedding.

Choosing fragrant florals like jasmine and freesia add an extra element of romance to the arrangement and surround the groom with sweetness.

Kudos to all the wonderfully talented designers who create these perfect, delectable little floral treats for our enjoyment!  I can never get enough of them!
